Why Ayurveda?

07th April, 2023

Ayurveda is known to be a life science that emerged around 5000 years back. It has been said in the ancient texts that Lord Brahma recalled Ayurveda from his memory to teach it to his disciples. Ayurveda believes in the treatment of the body as a whole where mind, body, and soul are considered the prime components. According to Ayurveda, a healthy body should undergo good daily routines, proper diet, and nutrition with detoxification procedures to lead a healthy life

'Ayu' means life and 'Veda' means knowledge i.e., Ayurveda means the science of life. The main principles of Ayurveda believe in bringing the individual body constituents in equilibrium with each other and to that with the environment. Here are a few reasons why to choose Ayurveda.

1. Ayurveda treats the body as a whole living system.

Ayurveda believes that most diseases occur from undigested food, also called 'ama'. 'Ama' is the cause or underlying reason for disease. Also that any disequilibrium caused in the body will and must show as a symptom of a disease either in the mind psychologically or in the body.

2. Ayurveda treats the root of the disease, not the symptom.

In Ayurveda, the treatment protocol mostly aims at treating the root cause of the disease rather than the symptom. Here, the medicines and treatment aim to bring the body to its natural state of equilibrium, which in turn brings relief from the symptoms and the disease.

3. Pariksha Vidhi or Mode of Examination of a patient

Whenever our body suffers from a disease, the same will be visible in other parts of the body. Hence, Ayurveda believes in Prakriti assessment and Pariksha Vidhi as the major factor while examining patients. Prakruti can be depicted s bodily humors namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Everybody has an equilibrium in these 3 results in health and disequilibrium in these results in diseases.

There are a number of ways of examination of a patient. Many of them include Ashta Vidha, Nava Vidha, Dasha Vidha etc. Ashtavidha is rather famous which includes - Nadi (Pulse), Mutra (Urine), Mala (Faeces), Jihwa (tongue), Shabda (Auscultation), Sparsha (Palpation), Druk (Signs, Symptoms) (some even interpret it as eyes), Akruti (bodily feature)

4. Ayurveda believes in prevention rather than cure

Ancient scholars or Acharyas believed that optimum health can only be obtained with discipline in one's daily routine. Daily habits and seasonal habits have been explained by the Acharyas for one to lead a disease free.

5. Ayurveda as medicine

Ayurveda involves not only decoctions and pills but even things you find in the kitchen as important medicines. It believes in the theory that medicines should come from one's kitchen and not any lab. Things we use daily in our kitchen like ghee, butter, oils, ginger, and whatnot. Everything is medicine and is said that there is no element in the world that doesn't qualify as medicine. Mother Nature has a cure for it all.

6. Cost-Effective Treatments with no Side Effects

Ayurveda treatments are non-harming in nature and cost-effective. As said earlier, any kitchen herb can be used to treat something or another by oneself. Ayurveda medicines are all chemical free made from plant-based products.
