The Doshas in Ayurveda – Kapha

CHARACTERISTICS OF KAPHA PERSON

Physical Appearance- Large broad body frame, moderate appetite, deep and sound sleep, pleasant & deep voice, moderate sweating, good stamina, low thirst, calm & polite. The Kapha body is physically solid, compact and wide with extensive thighs, hips, bums, and chest and has a tendency to be perpetually overweight. Their skin is fair, cool and always glowing. Kapha hair is thick, extravagant, and abundant, and wavy. Kapha individuals’ voices are delicate. 

 

Kapha individuals love heat and they suffer in cold, damp climates.

Mental Characteristics - Empathetic, caring, trusting, patient, calm, wise, happy, romantic, susceptible to depression, needs regular motivation and encouragement. People who are characterized by Kapha energy operate in a manner that is well-considered and thorough. They can sometimes appear rather slow and ponderous to other people, but they have exceptional endurance.

Appetite and Digestion – prone to weight gain, slow metabolism, sluggishness, Eating is their great passion: consequently Kapha people have a lifelong tendency to be overweight. 

What Kapha prakruti people need to regulate their bodily functions? -For good health, a kapha-dominant person should focus on regular exercise, a healthy diet, maintain a warm body temperature and establish a regular sleep routine

 

  • Eat lighter fruits like apples and pears. Avoid heavy and sour fruits like oranges, banana, dates, figs, pineapples, coconuts, melons and avocados. These fruits can increase Kapha in the body.
  • Reduce consuming sugar products since they aggravate kapha in the body. However, honey can be consumed, it is excellent in balancing kapha.

Dr. Parvathy Sreeram graduated from Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences (Rajiv Gandhi University), Bengaluru by pursuing a 5-year degree course in Ayurveda, Bachelors in Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) and then later pursued PG Diploma in Hospital Management from IGMPI, Delhi. B.A.M, Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala Clinic, and has also pursued training from Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala Hospital and Research center, Cochin. Before she carved the stepping stone of her long-term goal and passion of an ayurvedic multispecialty hospital and started Moksh Ayurveda.
